The Pebble Hills High School marching band placed third at the Area competition at the University of Texas at El Paso Sun Bowl last Saturday, Oct. 30.

Their strong finish distinguished them as the highest placing band from El Paso and a powerhouse within the area.

Although this placing did not qualify them to compete at the state level in San Antonio, senior drum major Osvaldo Rubio reflected on the pride and confidence he has for the band moving forward.

“I think our sadness says a lot about how great this season was,” Rubio said. “We’re all going to miss it but in all, it is going to motivate the band…that’s what it’s all about.”

The Spartan marching band’s competition season came to an end the day after the senior night football game, where seniors were recognized for their contributions to their organizations.

As two chapters have closed, many seniors took the time to reflect on their growth and prideful accomplishments -like placing first at the Coronado T-Bird Invitational, second at Marchfest, and a one rating at Region competition.

“I feel like every year in band we’ve always been really big and made it so far,” senior clarinet Vianey Centeno said. “So being recognized made me realize how important band is and how hard I’ve worked.”

Looking ahead, the band will continue to work diligently with All-Region and concert season approaching steadily.
