Pebble Hills HOSA held a conference Saturday morning Oct. 23, to give exposure to students in the medical field with advice from current healthcare workers and to showcase the path of careers.

Health professionals from near and far gathered in the auditorium to share their personal experiences to inspire students to pursue those same paths in health sciences.

According to the keynote speaker, Leticia Mondragon, every three minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer.

“Being in this presentation alone has opened my eyes to how critical the health profession is and how in demand it is,” senior and HOSA president Zarek Gomez said. “HOSA has really opened my eyes to how beneficial being in the health professional is.”

As students begin to separate into breakout groups they were given the complete freedom to decide which session they wanted to attend.

“You can’t say you’ve learned or formulate a full thought about something unless you’ve actually had that experience, HOSA adviser Miryam Terrazas said. “In order for a student to fully be engaged and be able to get the benefit and the full spectrum of HOSA, we have to go ahead and offer those experiences to them.”

The HOSA conference offered students first-hand exposure and experience to prepare them for what may come in their future medical careers.

HOSA looks forward as they prepare for their next conference in the spring semester where they will be competing.
