The varsity girl’s basketball team lost their home opener 64-36 against the Burges Mustangs on Tuesday night Nov 8.

In their two losses, opponents have scored sixty points or more.

The Spartans are coming off another bi-district championship, but this year has started off rocky.

For comfort, back in 2019, when the Spartans started 0-4, which was their worst start in school history, they managed to turn it around and  finished with their first district title and two postseason wins.

Despite some struggles, standout sophomore Jordan Sapien, who scored 21 points in the season opener against Chapin, is going to be relied on for her shooting and offensive production.

The majority of the stat leaders on the team are sophomores which include Olivia White in rebounds and Jordan Sapien in points per game.

“I got to know the girls a lot and we are very close,” said Sapien said after being asked if she was intimidated her first year.

The girls are now currently on the road to Dallas for the Dallas Mavericks Fall Classic Tournament to open up against Kennedale High School. After, they welcome the Eastwood Troopers for the start of district play.
