Nine law enforcements students spent their first day of intersession helping their community by cleaning up trash beside the highway on Zaragoza Saturday morning Oct. 1.

This is an annual tradition for the law enforcement team, led by Diana Kirk and Christopher Short, who also invited other participants to help out the community.

Several citizens of the area have recently had complaints about overgrown weeds and lots of trash.  

Junior Gael Torres, who is a member of student council and has helped with the cleanup since his sophomore year, feels it is important to give back to the community.

“I have been given a lot, Torres said. “I like my community that I live and was raised in. I just want to give back to it.” 

Some other events they have done previously include leadership conventions, where they practice the values of being a leader and the core of a local competition. 

Torres and company always jump at the chance of helping others. 

“It is a really fun experience to do this,” Torres said. It’s fun to be part of the team and do stuff together.”

In the future, he has plans to continue this path to either become a federal law enforcement officer or an attorney.
