During the first game of the Fabens Independent School District tournament against Santa Teresa, the Spartan varsity boys were able to put up a defensive front, not allowing for the opponent to put points on the board.
By the end of the first quarter, the Spartans built up a 20-point lead.
After being moved up a level from the junior varsity squad, junior Isaiah Davis showed why head coach Arturo Escobar moved him up. Davis penetrated the lane and dunked the ball, proving to be a solid contributor to the varsity level.
At the start of the second half, Spartan defense was able to outrun the Desert Warriors, gradually gaining a bigger lead.
Junior Austin Brown says it was a slower paced game and did not show the full capability their team has in-store for this upcoming season.
“We still have a lot to work on as a team,” Brown said. “Our one goal is to make it to playoffs.
