Students participated in the school’s first midnight madness event Aug. 17 at the football field.

“It was completely awesome,” senior Jasmine Haraughty said. “I liked that everyone was so excited. Everyone just came together to support our team, even if we did not really like football, we were there to support our school.”

According to Haraughty, the events was a great way to kick off the start of the year.

“Midnight madness was a first of many experiences, so everybody was very excited to share something so special,” senior Ana Rodriguez said. “It made everyone feel like it was going to be a good football season.”

The crowd was able to make the practice seem as if it were an actual game.

“Honestly, it felt really good,” left guard Ivan Ibarra said. “You felt the energy, even though it was a practice, it felt like a game because of the students.”

Last year’s midnight madness was cancelled due to weather, and this left many students disappointed. According to school administration, the event is designed to unite the school spirit and support the football team.

“Midnight Madness was phenomenal,” assistant principal Mrs. Aida Ritchie said. ” It was a great experience, I had a great time.”

The Spartans kick off the season Thursday Aug. 31 at 4:00 p.m. against the Irvin Rockets at the Socorro Independent School District Student Activities Complex.
