For the first time in program history, the Spartans defeated the Montwood Rams and earned their second district win of the year with a 51-35 victory . The Rams’ starting quarterback, Jason Fernandez, who didn’t play the entire first half, opened the second with a touchdown, but it was not enough as thePebble Hills’ offensive could not be stopped.

The night started with the first touchdown going to Pebble Hills’ Arturo Salazar. The Spartans failed to convert the extra 2-points which raised the score to 6-0.

At halftime the Spartans took a 14-point lead and they looked to go for the knockout punch and  avenge last year’s loss to the Rams that ended their regular season and ended up costing them a second or first-place tie for district.

“I think our team performed really well,” said running back Caleb Gerber on his team’s performance Friday night. “We came as a team and we work together everyday in practice and we work hard so that we can come out on game days and come out and win.”

In the end the Spartans finished off with a score of 51-35 leaving the Rams in their dust.

“Last year was last year, we did a very good job in preparation this week,” head coach Mark Torres said. “We talked a lot about being mentally tough, mentally prepared, being able to overcome adversity and they did a real good job with that.”

The Spartans are set to face off Americas High School Trailblazers next week, Thursday night Oct. 25 at the SISD Student Activities Complex. The game will be the last home game for the Spartans.
