Nationally Ranked Program Seeks to Continue Excellence
October 19, 2017
Pebble Hills high school NJROTC was ranked 3rd in the nation this past school year for their vast amount of community service hours and outstanding Annual Military Inspection (AMI).
The unit consists of students from Pebble Hills, El Dorado, and Montwood High School. Throughout the year they have participated in many activities to give back to the community and earn hours.
“We did community services such as helping clean at the orphanage and during Christmas we would give them presents,” senior Stephanee Maldonado said. “We also made food for the homeless and we gave them socks and stuff they needed.”
In total, they have completed 9,500 community service hours within the 2016-2017 school year.
Not only did they achieve a high number of community service hours but they also received outstanding results throughout their annual military inspection. This inspection is done to make sure the students are being taught correctly and following all of the navy regulations that are set.
In order to be successful in the NJROTC program the unit must have great communication skills with each other.
“It’s not difficult, you just have to put in the work and make sure everybody is on the same page,” senior Ashley Alfaro said. “We are trying to prepare ourselves for AMI this coming November and also get as much community service as we can.”
Towards the end of each school year the unit will be inspected and their community service hours will be added up and compared to those of other units in the nation.
