Pebble Hills cruises with their third win of the undefeated season, picking up their first district win against the Eastwood Troopers Friday, Sept 9, at the SAC, 40-22.

Starting the first quarter on the losing side for the first time, the Spartans caught up quickly, with junior quarterback Gael Ochoa scoring their first touchdown with a short run into the in-zone.

An interception by senior Ricky Gallegos stopped an Eastwood score at the end of the first, ending it 7-7.

“I had a good game but I couldn’t do it without my D-line and my linebackers doing their job, and I give all the credit to them,” Gallegos said.

Once again, the Spartans trampled the competition in the second quarter. Scoring two times, with an easy run in touchdown by senior Robert Deal Jr, and a pass caught by junior Marcus Torres. The Spartans ended the half with an interception by junior Gael Ochoa, leading Eastwood 21-7, keeping the Troopers from scoring the entire quarter.

“I feel like I was real good, there’s only one way and that’s up,” Marcus Torres said.

With the third quarter being strictly about defense, the Spartans held the Troopers from scoring the entire quarter.

Starting the fourth with an interception from junior Amari Welch on the first play of the fourth quarter which led to a touchdown by senior Jacob Ledesma. But a botched extra point play led to a two point conversion for the Troopers. A touchdown run by senior Sam Chacon was followed, furthering the Spartan lead.

Senior Jahlil Bost with a 20-touchdown run helped seal the deal against the Troopers.

“District wins are not easy to come by, everybody is at good something and Eastwood is certainly good offensively, they were a real challenge to us,” head coach Marcus Torres said.

Pebble Hills will be back in action Thursday night Sept. 15 as they play the El Dorado Aztecs. This is El Dorado’s first year back in 6A.
