After a thirty-minute weather delay, the Spartans did not need any time to get going as they came out of the gate on a tear and in dominating fashion as they win defeated the Chapin Huskies for homecoming game Friday night Sept. 13 at the SISD Student Activities Center.

Continuing to orchestrate the offense and lead his team, senior quarterback Sebastian Ochoa had a big first half with five total touchdowns. At times, the Pebble Hills offense looked unstoppable as the Huskies were not able to cover Ochoa and receivers.

Head coach Mark Torres applauded his the efforts from his quarterback but took note on a big turnover in the second quarter.

“He [Ochoa] had his first turnover of the year, but you know what it’s just learning and he was getting anxious and stuff,” Torres said. “But when he’s under control, he’s a pretty good quarterback.

Putting last week’s misfortunes behind them, Pebble Hills looked to take it out on the Huskies.

“We just wanted to bounce back from last week, we had a tough loss last week by one point,” Ochoa said. “We were the better team last week, and we’re the better team this week.”

The highlight of the season, for the Huskies, came in the second quarter when they managed to finally score their first touchdown of the season, by senior running back Michael Smith, although the field goal was no good.

In the second half, junior safety Chaz Clemons came up with a huge interception to give the possession back to the Spartans and gain control of the game once more.

“I just wanted to go to my team and celebrate,” said Clemons about his first reaction after grabbing the interception. “I’m just trying to do whatever it takes to help my team win.”

In both home games, the Spartans have handled their business against the Aztecs and Huskies with ease, dominating both in the first half, and not allowing them to close the gap in the second.

“I think we were focused, and the kids came in the game ready to play,” Torres said. “We had a good week of preparations and anytime you start a game strong, you know you had a good preparation.”

The Spartans welcome San Angelo next Friday Sept. 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the SISD SAC.
