After opening the season with a tough loss on the road, Pebble Hills did just enough to defeat the Bowie Bears, 64-62, and collect their first win of the season.

Senior Charles Jones, who carried the team offensively last game against Chapin, did it again Tuesday night as he led with 22 points.

“… I think we just played harder, and we played more heart to win this game,” said Jones on the team’s effort in their home opener.

Five members of the varsity basketball team are still not available as they have yet to complete their football obligations. That and turnovers made the game closer than what it should have been.

“No, I don’t think either team was challenging, we just had mistakes that we shouldn’t have made, you know we weren’t hustling as much we weren’t doing our rebounds good enough, I don’t think either team was challenging we were just defeating ourselves,” Christian Montelongo said.

The Spartans are in action this Tuesday night as they welcome the Canutillo Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
