Entering the new season, the JV Spartans were looking to make an early push to the top of the district standings by coming out not only good, but great in their dominant win at home against the El Dorado Aztecs 34-7 Friday afternoon, Aug. 31.

With junior running back, Kylar Sanchez,  who lead the pack on the offensive end scoring four of the team’s five touchdowns helping the Spartans wa favorable 34-point lead in the first half. Sanchez definitely impressed JV head coach Marquis Washington with his strong showing against El Dorado.

“He did great, like I’ve said before, he’s our work-horse,” coach Washington said. “He does everything we ask him to do, and hopefully he can continue this for the rest of the season.”

Right from the kickoff, the Spartans came out of the gates on a tear, scoring their first touchdown on the return within the first eight seconds of the game giving them the very early lead 7-0.

Sanchez attributed his success to the O-Line.

“The line just did their job,” Sanchez said. “They did what they had to do, they got the hole open.”

Although the Spartans did not score again in the second half, their lead was large enough to give them a cushion and their spectacular defense did the rest of the job of keeping the opposing team down.

The Aztecs offense faced nothing but issues as they constantly ran into what seemed like the impenetrable defense. The Aztecs managed only to finally score with 2:58 left in the game.

“I think we did pretty good, I mean we won 34 to 7, with 34 points in the first half, we came and we did what we had to do, now we just have to get ready for the next game,” coach Washington said.

The officials cancelled the game due to an altercation between El Dorado and Pebble Hills with less than a minute of play remaining in the game.

Pebble Hills dominated their season opener and head on to the bye-week.
