Continuing the Cedar Hills Tournament this morning, boy’s basketball defeated Ft. Worth South Hill 52-37. South Hill Scorpions gained a constant lead of three points throughout the first half of the game. Spartans pulled through and upped their game straight out of the second half. Strong defense helped the Spartans gain the lead on the Scorpions, and eventually the win, which is their first win of the tournament.

“Toward the end of the game, everything started to click for us,” team captain Willie Avalos said. “We started to move the ball around a lot more, so it was an all-around effort from the team that helped us get this win.”

Avalos had a game-high 14, Kevin Averette 12, Austin Brown 11, and Devon Howard 9.

Spartans were not done for the day, shortly after they played Life Mustangs and dropped their second game of the day 77-52.

The team lacked the strength they performed with in their first game, allowing Mustangs to hold the lead throughout the game. Pebble Hills’ defense allowed 40 more points in game two.

“We just need to finish off teams and not give them a chance to come back,” Charles Jones said.

Kevin Averette led the team 13, followed by Austin Brown with 11.

In two out of the first three games, the Spartans have allowed more than 70 points. Tomorrow morning the team will finish off the tournament.
