Devon Howard and Austin Brown try and create something offensively at the Cedar Hills Tournament Dec. 7.

Spartan boy’s basketball team started off the Cedar Hill Tournament with a 67-73 loss to West Mesquite. Within the first quarter, the Spartans had the 18-14 advantage via strong defense, but lost the lead as the game progressed.

“I think we played really well as a team,” Devon Howard said. “We executed and had forced the other team to turnover the ball at a high rate. We just need to fix the little things towards the end of the game, like turnovers and maintaining a good pace. But this is only the first game. We’ll learn from it and continue on.”

Austin Brown finished with 14 points, Howard 12, Kevin Averette 10, and Willie Avalos 10.

Pebble Hills continues tournament play in the consolation bracket. Tomorrow they play Ft. Worth South Hills, who lost to El Paso’s Andress Eagles.
