Last season, the Spartan boy’s team  were unsuccessful in obtaining the championship win in the Fabens Independent School District tournament. Almost exactly a year later, these boys looked to take the winning title against the Franklin Cougars with strong defensive and offensive plays.

During the first quarter of the game, Spartan defense was able to create turnovers, allowing for Austin Brown to penetrate open lanes and score. Spartans ended the first quarter with a 6-point lead.

Franklin’s offense seemed to pick up their momentum by scoring three consecutive 3-pointers. Their defense, however, was unable to keep up the pace as Spartans continued to put points on the board.

DaSean Moore went into the second half leading with 11 points, and was able to put up the first points on the board to start the third quarter.

Head coach, Arturo Escobar, says this championship game was able to show the growth his team has made throughout the previous years.

“It definitely shows improvement and more maturity as well as poise,” Escobar said on behalf of his team.

Spartans would finish the game with a score of 73-69, winning the championship title they were unable to secure last year. The Spartans face the Burges Mustangs on Nov. 28 at Burges.
